FAQ
Q. Should I get insurance for diving?
A. Tres Pelicanos recommends Divers Alert Network (DAN), a nonprofit scuba diving and dive safety association. There are outstanding hyperbaric chambers located on the island should you need one. Check out their website for pricing.
Q. Is it expensive if I have to go in the chamber and I don’t have insurance?
A. Without accident insurance the price can be as high as $1,000 USD per hour.
Q. What times do the boats leave the marina?
A. The boats leave the marina at 8 am for morning dives and 1:30 pm for afternoon dives.
Q. What are the times for the twilight and night dives?
A. That depends on the time of the year and can be anywhere between 3pm to 5pm. You will need to check with the dive shop once you arrive.
Q. How long are the dives?
A. Tres Pelicanos strives to give divers what they long for—more bottom time. With us you dive 70 minutes or 700 psi; (no deco dives), whichever comes first.
Q. Where do we dive and how do you pick the reefs?
A. We dive all the reefs on the leeward side of the island. You, the divers on the boat, decide where you want to go. If conditions are good and everyone can dive the site, then we will go.
Q. How long are we gone for on a 2-tank dive?
A. Usually 4 – 5 hours depending on the distance of the reef. We have fast boats, we just stay down longer.
Q. Is all of Cozumel drift diving and is it fast?
A. Yes, Cozumel is known for its drift diving and can vary from mild to very strong currents but there is nothing to be afraid of. Thousands of new divers are certified in Cozumel each year.
Q. Do you have nitrox tanks?
A. We offer 80cf nitrox tanks in either 32% or 36% at $10 (tax incl) per tank.. We also have 100 cf nitrox tanks for $12 (tax inc) per tank. Please note we have 100cf air tanks as well for an extra $5 (tax inc) per tank.
Q. How do I reserve my spot on the boat?
A. When making your reservation you will need to make a $50 per diver deposit thru Venmo. No space on the boat is guaranteed without a deposit.
Q. How do I pay my balance?
A. Balance of payment is due upon arrival in either cash – US dollar or pesos (at the current bank rate) or by VISA, Mastercard or Discover card. Unfortunately we do not accept American Express.
Q. Can I use my credit card over the phone to pay you?
A. Unfortunately no. Mexico does not allow credit card info to be shared over the phone. To pay your balance with your credit card you will need to come to the Cozumel office to make the payment. If you would like to pay in cash and cannot come to the office, the staff on the boat can accept the payment.
Q. Do you have DIN tanks?
A. Yes. We have DIN valves as well as DIN adaptors.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
Refunds are given if cancelations are made at least 24 hours in advance. Dives booked for Christmas or New Year’s require a 1 week notice for cancellation. There are no charges for dives canceled due to port closures.
